When I interview for data scientist positions I ask your favorite question, but with "programming language" replaced by "statistical analysis package". (There's overlap between the two sets; their intersection includes Python, with the SciPy stack being what it is now.) I honestly don't care what package they name; it's more a way to get them talking about how they use whatever package they respond with, which reveals quite a bit.
