The term FTL is generally used, and predates Battlestar Galactica.[1]

But of course, your point of confusing people with acronyms still stands!

When I first saw references to Apple's engine updates the other day and they were referred to as FTLJIT I just assumed it stood for Faster-Than-Light. Perhaps that's just too nerdy for Apple to admit. Maybe it's not a backronym, it just worked out that way.

But I bet the engineers like the name.


I bet the "redefinition" is intentional.
