It may be that Google uses location information from your IP address, which, for the Microsoft servers running the competition, is in Redmond. If you search "what is my ip address" in the competition, Google's results show "Your public IP address is 131.253.25.46" (or something similar). This is a Microsoft IP in Redmond. Interestingly, a reverse DNS query gives msnbot-131-253-25-46.search.msn.com as a domain name for this IP.


Well yes that does make a lot of sense. Kind of stupid of me to not realize this myself.
