Final thoughts on Windows 8: A design disaster
I don't know if Windows 8 is good or bad, but I do know the perception of it is bad. Perception is reality. If Microsoft doesn't get control of Windows 8 image ASAP then it's going to bomb.

I remember Microsoft being called a "perception engine" by my boss around 1998.

The difference this time is that many of the bad reviews are coming from historically pro-Windows sources.

It's been a long time, but now there is more viable competition as well as less need to upgrade from older versions.
I think Microsoft would be far better off doing more frequent OS updates with smaller changes.

This is clearly a result of pressure from investors. Osx,iOS/android and chrome/*nix are all rapidly advancing.
