Cool. I plan on doing something similar in future. One thing though:

Running the FS off a USB stick is a bad idea. No write leveling so its only a question of time before it bombs out.

Mount it read-only, put temporary files into ramdisks.

Sadly, flash also suffers from read-disturbs. USB sticks can die just from being read a lot.

Plus, sometimes you want logs for troubleshooting... small SSDs are cheap.
