I must be missing something; What is the motivation for submitting this story?

I found it interesting and have conflicted feelings about it. I’m curious to hear about other people’s experiences and interpretations.

It’s an actively unfolding event affecting thousands of people and GitHub consistently returns a server error for the author’s profile page.
