There are a lot of theoretical advantages to IPv6. Every single internet endpoint can have a unique address. You will no longer need any form of NAT. Any two random connected devices can talk to each other with a simple TCP/UDP request.

Practically all of this is still very unlikely, but at least it is a step in the right direction.
