It is an interesting perspective considering that "Kadyrivtsi", or forces from the Russian region of Chechnya named after the region's Russian appointed president, Ramzan Kadyrov, are behind the attack to the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant and are trying to mine it.
The map of the Chernobyl fallout would seem to indicate that the prevailing wind blows into Russia. Belarus took the majority of it. France claims none of it reached their country. Blowing up a Ukrainian nuclear plant might well harm Russia more than Europe.
It is also not impossible that group currently controlling the plant is willing to hurt Russia in retaliation of Chechen Wars. We have no idea if people who consider Kadyrov as a traitor have infiltrated his forces or not. Ukrainians also leaked information that the reason Kadyrov men trying to assassinate Ukrainian president failed was because of a tip from FSB. Now this might be as well a clever ploy to mess with their heads but what if they believe it? Interesting times indeed.

I have been thinking about their options to obtain nuclear material.
