Took me a bit, but that's definitely a depressing read. Useful though.
Makes me think of how a civilization survives when problems are "caused" by lack of knowledge (profit motive complicates things as well), but that knowledge takes time to accumulate, but by the time you accumulate the knowledge, it might be too late to properly handle the issue.
I guess the "stance" that humanity has taken so far is that if there's a problem, we'll eventually find a solution.
But when does that run out?
Maybe that's The Great Filter, when a civilization has created a problem for itself that it's not able to find a solution for.
