How do we make text bold for emphasis? or should we just use UTF characters for that?

For emphasis there is italics, which you can make by adding asterisks around the word.

And if I want 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱 text? I know how to get italics.

Most typographs disagree with using italics:

> If you’re using a sans serif font, skip italic and use bold for emphasis. It’s not usually worth italicizing sans serif fonts—unlike serif fonts, which look quite different when italicized, most sans serif italic fonts just have a gentle slant that doesn’t stand out on the page.

Which was explained in the cited link.

Which does not help me when most typographers say to use 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱 for emphasis: http://practicaltypography.com/bold-or-italic.html

According to grammarians, you're supposed to use italics for emphasis in English.

Eh, I read quite a few books that say the opposite

> If you’re using a sans serif font, skip italic and use bold for emphasis. It’s not usually worth italicizing sans serif fonts—unlike serif fonts, which look quite different when italicized, most sans serif italic fonts just have a gentle slant that doesn’t stand out on the page.

Please just write normally formatted sentences.

As I answered to several other comments, this is not a helpful suggestion when most typographers suggest to use bold for emphasis of sans-serif fonts, as italic with sans-serif is less noticeable than 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱.

But I want to have the typesetting ability to provide emphasis, distinction, quotes, like in a book.

If I can’t get TeX or markdown, at least proper emphasis should be supported.

How do I make the dots on my "i"s into little love hearts to show how much I love the reader?
