How would Apple possibly fight a valid law of any country it operates in?

So this is interesting. Apple's an incumbent, not some new disruptive company. What I mean to say is this isn't like a rideshare company that goes in burning money to build public sentiment while lobbying the politicians.

Everyone knows who Apple is. I'm certain UK gov has been in constant communication with Apple on how this is to be rolled out. They would have communicated intent and received feedback from Apple as to how they'll ship it. It's within their capability to lobby/advertise opposition to laws like this but logical option in Apple's position is to insist on a common framework countries could use so they don't need to build a different verify for every country.

I really do think Apple's primary opposition to not having E2EE is they didn't want to deal with the cost of complying with requests and the liability of hosting illegal content. That's the real pushback, because it's ongoing cost/liability to them.

Many of the red states are passing age verification laws to view porn sites. However 100% of the sites are either ignoring the laws if they are not in the US or easily accessible via a VPN.

So instead of people using the right tool for the right job and learning single table design when using DDB, they are going to use the completely wrong tool. I can just imagine the sub optimal in memory aggregations and expensive use of read and write units.

And the lawyers will make millions and the people will make nothing. Facebook won’t make any significant revenue affecting changes.

that is a problem of the system that needs to be solved. meta is among the purest forms of evil inflicting irreversible effects on our society (and youth in particular) and the fact that you are quite right isn't really an issue with the lawyers but system that allows punishment to not fit the crime.

You realize who runs the site right?

Hell Apple’s latest monitors have an A19 Pro chip in them which are more powerful than the MacBook Neo.

They're more than $50 however.

I really wish this meme would die. Every modern operating system - macOS, Linux and Windows - use available memory for certain performance optimizations. It doesn’t mean when needed, that memory isn’t available for other applications and your computer just starts swapping.

I wish the "optimizations" meme would die as well, read my comment upthread on how that's generally inaccurate.

I can 100% guarantee you that if you have a computer with 8GB RAM, the computer wouldn’t start swapping if you brought up a new process that needed 4 of those 8GB even though it says the operating system is using “8GB RAM”

I am going to say the opposite. There are two classes of digital information for me.

1. What my wife cares about: mostly financial. My wife is a joint account holder on everything she can be. Thats everything but retirement accounts. She is the beneficiary on those. I send her statements for those every year and we have a shared spreadsheet.

On the other hand, I think people overestimate how much people will care about your pictures. It’s like no one wants to see your vacation photos. For the ones that she does care about, we just share them.

Just forget about Claude and use Codex with your $20/month subscription. I’ve never run into limits using it 4 months

Would have agreed with this a month ago but I am hitting limits now.

I think the economics of agentic coding is starting to normalize.

My work is very much, small task, test, next small task.

I use mostly my personal ChatGPT subscription with Codex 90% of the time and when Codex can’t figure it out, I tell it to document the task it is currently trying to solve and everything it’s tried in markdown and then switch to Claude and tell it to read the markdown file.

My employer gives us a $1500 a month allowance to Claude and if push comes to shove after that, we can redirect Claude to use the AWS/Bedrock hosted Anthropic model in our internal Dev account.

That’s the age of my Microsoft office, three computer having multiple printer using mother…
