Friends of the High Line (www.highline.org) New York / On-Site / Full time.
FHL is looking for a Graphic Designer / Front-End Developer as we build our internal team. Super hands-on position and a chance to shape the direction of one of the leading NYC destinations with nearly 8MM visitors last year alone.
Can understand this sentiment in younger people. As someone in his mid-40s, even living in New York City, I just picked up a car (after 8 years of not having one) and have been enjoying driving it so much. It's just something I grew up with and love to do as an activity.
Earlier this morning I was cruising some empty county roads, windows down enjoying the (relatively) warm weather and sunshine, blasting some Chris Thile: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8I07VIxyQM.
If I was stuck in the stop & go city traffic where having my windows down meant getting a face full of exhaust, I'd hate it to.
Same. Sparrow is still my favorite email app on the Mac. Sadly had to give up on it with iOS as it just got super wonky. Will use it as long as it works on OSX.
Hey, thanks for the feedback. Right now the TOS are basically stock, so we have something at launch (lawyers!). We can modify them at any time so welcome input and I'll be sure to talk to them about striking such language. Thanks again.
One of the points that always seems to be lost in these criticisms and rebuttals and debates is that Gladwell spawns conversion. And that's a very good thing. Nothing should be taken as sacrosanct on either side. It's good to prod and examine these issues and bring more views to the table. Hopefully that leads to more questions... not dogma.
Spawning conversations on the basis of poor or misleading evidence is not a worthwhile endeavor. While nothing should be taken as sacrosanct, one needs to have solid evidence or a reasonable argument before they start prodding and examining issues.
Just saying "Hey, what if?" is not an incredible benefit to society if the claims are not properly testable.
Politicians do this all the time. Fox News and the mainstream media make their careers out of it. I think we as a society have forgotten how to deconstruct an argument and fact check the specifics.
Deconstructing arguments is difficult, and fact-checking is incredibly time consuming with often little immediately benefit (besides the smug sensation of knowing more that it often provides).
This is why popularizers and journalists have an incredible responsibility to provide this deconstruction and fact checking on behalf of the public, and it's why there is so much outrage, particularly from the scientific community, when they fail.
