Check out YAPD (Yet Another Pixel Dungeon) if you're on Android for a nice variant of the original. I found I like the mods in YAPD better.

I (perhaps mistakenly?) started with YAPD but then got my friend hooked and he went for SPD. I love how active the SPD dev is, but the mechanics are juuust a tad too different for me to want to learn them all. Both are great games though!

This is highly helpful, thank you! Was wanting to build something like this.

Do you have any Wyze cams outdoors, but under cover of a porch? Or are they indoor only?

They’re all outdoors, although at least partially covered by something (roof overhang, gutter, etc). The cameras themselves aren’t truly waterproof and do have a “grill” cut into the back panel for the internal speaker, but since I don’t use them for 2-way audio, you can seal that off with rubber cement, flexseal, rubber tape, etc. Mine have been fine in all four seasons.

That said, all the modifications and tinkering is definitely less turn-key than some people prefer, but I’m a glutton for punishment haha

I have some V3s outside, somewhat covered by a rain gutter. They definitely get wet when the rain comes down sideways. Never had a problem.

I have always crossed my eyes since the days of Magic Eye books, and could reliably "see" the image but it was always reversed (seemingly going INTO the page). It wasn't until this article that I realized I could go "slack eyed" as you call it. Now the images pop OUT of the page instead of recede into it. I wish I could rewind 30 years and tell my younger self how to do it.... I would have enjoyed those books so much more.

I flip the lid mostly closed on my MacBook and stare off at something across the room past the laptop. While still staring at that thing across the room I bring the display lid up in front of my gaze.

I can only see them as cutouts. They never pop out at me.

From personal observation and experience, I believe the BR game mode got some traction after the first Hunger Games movie released. After that movie released, I remember all sorts of "Hunger Games" Minecraft maps appearing online. I downloaded, played and hosted a handful of these Hunger Games "last man standing" maps for family and friends to play.

After a few weeks of that, the game format grew stale, and I stopped playing HG maps. Then a few years later a whole bunch of BR games hit the scene and all I could think of was how similar they were to the Hunger Games Minecraft maps.

That's just my guess from personal experience.

Interesting! I remember playing DotA as a custom map on Warcraft 3, then being amazed to see the League of Legends and DotA2 communities grow so large. I had no idea that the battle royal games started in Minecraft. That's fun to know.

And to anyone shying away from the word "emulator" - Project 1999 has the blessing of Daybreak to exist. They won't get shut down by a cease and desist.

I am having a very hard time telling if this is scripted/ad-libbed or a real person. I hope it's a real person because it's wonderful.

I'm leaning toward scripted. It's a fairly easy set up for a joke.

Like this sort of stuff, they're shorter than that segment but sort of the same idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9hRIjys4Qw

> I'm leaning toward scripted.

This is (allegedly?) a segment from the British documentary series Equinox, from the episode "Malltime":

So an actual person it seems.

It feels that way too. I was just hoping it might have been authentic! Either way it is lovely. Thanks for sharing it!

Agreed. I grew up on MOO2, played too much of it, mostly hotseat with a friend.

I tried a few other 4X space games, but none scratched the itch that Stellaris did. It's the only 4X space game I play now. And Paradox keeps adding content!

Love this! I tried this on my phone and instinctively tried to turn my phone to make the pieces slide around (after seeing the falling/sliding physics), expecting them to react to the gyro in the phone. Then realized, right, this is a web app!

Great work, fun!

Thanks for the feedback, using the phone's accelerometer is actually a great idea! As others mentioned, there are web APIs for that these days, I'll try to include something like that in the next version.

Seconding this. Would be great fun. Perhaps not for side to side, but allow for brief reversal of gravity by lurching the phone upwards?

I'm confused by your comment, web apps can access the accelerometer fine.

Sorry not a web dev or programmer, didn't realize that! Well then, that would be cool to enable.

Yeah, agreed, it's a cool API.

The font gore is strong on some of these ads.

"How many different a fonts can we jam into a single ad!?"

Apparently all of them!

Walter! I feel like I'm speaking to a celebrity! My Dad has been playing Empire since I was very young. It was a staple in my house growing up. He still plays it every day. He buys every version he can get his hands on. His love for Empire rubbed off, and my favorite genre of games are war management / 4X games (but SciFi!). Thank you so much for your amazing game. Is there a way I can contact you outside of HN (email)? Would love to ask some Empire questions :)

This feels a little like I'm doxing him, but I mean, his website lists an email and twitter handle (see https://walterbright.com/) and the Empire page lists a mailbag, so I think he's open to it (http://www.classicempire.com/letters.html)

I mean that and his hn handle is his first and last name.

Sure, ask me Empire questions!
