I (perhaps mistakenly?) started with YAPD but then got my friend hooked and he went for SPD. I love how active the SPD dev is, but the mechanics are juuust a tad too different for me to want to learn them all. Both are great games though!
They’re all outdoors, although at least partially covered by something (roof overhang, gutter, etc). The cameras themselves aren’t truly waterproof and do have a “grill” cut into the back panel for the internal speaker, but since I don’t use them for 2-way audio, you can seal that off with rubber cement, flexseal, rubber tape, etc. Mine have been fine in all four seasons.
That said, all the modifications and tinkering is definitely less turn-key than some people prefer, but I’m a glutton for punishment haha
I have always crossed my eyes since the days of Magic Eye books, and could reliably "see" the image but it was always reversed (seemingly going INTO the page). It wasn't until this article that I realized I could go "slack eyed" as you call it. Now the images pop OUT of the page instead of recede into it. I wish I could rewind 30 years and tell my younger self how to do it.... I would have enjoyed those books so much more.
I flip the lid mostly closed on my MacBook and stare off at something across the room past the laptop. While still staring at that thing across the room I bring the display lid up in front of my gaze.
From personal observation and experience, I believe the BR game mode got some traction after the first Hunger Games movie released. After that movie released, I remember all sorts of "Hunger Games" Minecraft maps appearing online. I downloaded, played and hosted a handful of these Hunger Games "last man standing" maps for family and friends to play.
After a few weeks of that, the game format grew stale, and I stopped playing HG maps. Then a few years later a whole bunch of BR games hit the scene and all I could think of was how similar they were to the Hunger Games Minecraft maps.
Interesting! I remember playing DotA as a custom map on Warcraft 3, then being amazed to see the League of Legends and DotA2 communities grow so large. I had no idea that the battle royal games started in Minecraft. That's fun to know.
And to anyone shying away from the word "emulator" - Project 1999 has the blessing of Daybreak to exist. They won't get shut down by a cease and desist.
Agreed. I grew up on MOO2, played too much of it, mostly hotseat with a friend.
I tried a few other 4X space games, but none scratched the itch that Stellaris did. It's the only 4X space game I play now. And Paradox keeps adding content!
Love this! I tried this on my phone and instinctively tried to turn my phone to make the pieces slide around (after seeing the falling/sliding physics), expecting them to react to the gyro in the phone. Then realized, right, this is a web app!
Thanks for the feedback, using the phone's accelerometer is actually a great idea!
As others mentioned, there are web APIs for that these days, I'll try to include something like that in the next version.
Walter! I feel like I'm speaking to a celebrity! My Dad has been playing Empire since I was very young. It was a staple in my house growing up. He still plays it every day. He buys every version he can get his hands on. His love for Empire rubbed off, and my favorite genre of games are war management / 4X games (but SciFi!). Thank you so much for your amazing game. Is there a way I can contact you outside of HN (email)? Would love to ask some Empire questions :)
