Messed up how?

I also think this has to do a lot with storytelling and message in the company. Do you have someone that can motivate and etc. Many things are boring under the hood to someone and interesting to someone else, but a good story about why and how is what makes a difference.

A well-written reflection on top of Marc's point in the podcast. I don't think it's a hot-take as I'm sure many others will be.

I've tried to interpret his point with a less literal lens. The real point being: give yourself as many opportunities to try, experiment, move on, move forward, etc. Spending excess time reflecting internally and/or on past may not be so productive.

But spending zero time (as he seems to suggest) feels illogical.

My personal experience is somewhere in between. Serial over-thinker and ruminator, and the more I break away from that behavior, the better I feel. And I'm probably more productive.

Anyone else share that in-between experience?

VC investor metric brain. Right?

If you can call a ketamine soaked, amphetamine-fried tangle of nerves a brain.

Interesting. Is he a known user? Also curious if you are more broadly against some of that overall?

I don’t know. What I do know is that he shares a similar insane accelerationist / libertarian philosophy that is popular in certain drug-fueled circles within tech.

Got it. Thanks for article. Not on West Coast so hearing less about SF things. Don’t see much or anything about the drug part here either - the part I was really curious about.

> Interesting. Is he a known user? Also curious if you are more broadly against some of that overall?

Just in case you're not aware, Garry Tan, then author of TFA, is YCombinator's current CEO and someone who, while cosplaying as a "moderate", at least subscribes to right-wing ideas (some of them pretty fringe, read the article in another comment).

Scary times. It's like we are suddenly surrounded by sociopathic tech entrepreneurs CEOs.

We always have been.

They became confident enough in their plan to take their masks off. And they are almost definitely collaborating with the very old circles of power who have been poisoning and enslaving people for centuries.

Right.

If these are the people making the decisions (and don't even get me started on the 'technical' folks at a16z...), the cluely-esque enshittification of VC over the last few years makes A LOT of sense.

What router and associated configuration software are you using? I have a Eero mesh network that leaves a lot to be desired for a fiddler like me.

I'm using OPNSense for the router, on their dedicated hardware - DEC750 iirc.

The switches are mostly Mikrotik, with some Unifi switches.

The wifi APs are all Unifi - they are all PoE and wired into the same network, no mesh. Even between buildings I ran fibre.

For the switching and routing, were I to do it again now I might go all Unifi. They recently implemented some much needed updates to make doing things like firewall rules and routing based on device much easier. I have a complicated set of rules in OPNsense to route IOT VLAN traffic out via a VPN connection, which require static IP assignments via DHCP, but under the new Unifi network I could do it with a few clicks and being able to use device attributes rather than a static IP.

I am also using an SLZB-MR1 for a ZigBee controller and Matter over Thread border router. I've got a bunch of IKEA and Mercator ZigBee light bulbs/fixtures that act as ZigBee routers. It's a strong enough mesh I rarely have issues with the ~180 devices on the net.

"Your security code with X changed"

"What's a security code?"

Roughly what I follow. I pour chia seeds into everything I eat. Also: edamame, goji berries, green peas. Etc etc. My particular motivation is 1) health, but 2) I lift quite a bit and try to get as much protein from food as possible.

Fascinating to hear. I am trying to cut alcohol - still not entirely successful.

But I've been able to cut for months at a time. Whenever the cut happens, I feel my brain sort of "return" roughly a week or two in.

I'm not sure how to explain it other than something like fog clearing. Obviously makes some intuitive sense when you read it.

However, as someone that has consumed alcohol somewhat regularly (sometimes more, sometimes less) since college, it's bizarre to think about that consumption in retrospect. In effect, years and years of "fog" - it makes me wonder how different or similar life would have been without that fog.

Can't change the past now, but a data point and strong signal for the future.

I feel that same way you described with the "fog" clearing. I don't know exactly what it is, but I'm imagining it being the fact I _finally_ get some good, restful sleep (with it taking about 2 weeks give or take for that clear headed feeling to regenerate).

Oddly I don’t feel like I sleep better, but probably do. But I’m sure you’re right about the impact of sleep as a contributor to the overall clearing.

Looks like a fresh take on the topic.

But I was reminded immediately of this Dan Luu post with the same title.

Not just PC industry!

Feels that way in auto too.

I go to Tesla, Lucid websites. Breath of fresh air. Clear choices.

Porsche website: WTF. (just one example, there are many)

Porsche is about BTO and customization. If you want a Porsche, go to a dealer and have them walk you through building the one you want. Or become knowledgeable in all the options and find a used one with 85% of what you want.

Of course. I own one! But, I think they could ease the process somewhat with some obvious defined package sets.
