This has a background and actually was done intentionally in Brazil: https://publications.iadb.org/en/soap-operas-and-fertility-e...

Every single population growth and peak chart for the last 10 years (and maybe 20) has been wrong with growth slowing much faster than expected. It's basically the opposite of all the solar power growth predictions. I predict this article is wrong too and the growth continues to fall. Just wait until no kids becomes the norm for couples in their 30s in India like it is here in the US.

You can tell a lot about a C/C++ engineer by asking a simple question like strcpy(). Assuming they get it right (which many don't), you can then cover test cases, you can discuss trade offs on safety vs performance, and failure modes. It can actually be very interesting.

I've been wondering with all the data that's available now couldn't admissions look at a 4.0 from HS A vs a 4.0 at HS B and then compare those to actual grades on the campus once students were in class? Assuming HS A has lower standards, they should be able to tell that a 4.0 isnt as meaningful as a 4.0 from HS B. Seems like a straightforward exercise.

If they secede the US can go help them with democracy. They do have oil.

Bank boss is sorry that you're mad, not sorry he said it.

precisely! he’s only sorry you know how he thinks. the reality is he means it and would take every opportunity he can to squeeze and optimise away human labour for his own benefit

Companies are cutting headcount to fund AI projects, not necessarily because of the gains they are getting from it. And frankly in many companies, cutting layers and reducing team handoffs will be a net gain - even if AI didn't exist.

Does Texas have open records law for politicians? He's taking this personally, which means he has a personal stake in the outcome.

Most disruptive start-ups don't come from a giant pile of cash, but from new ideas that the old players can't or won't adopt. It did not take $500B to build a digital camera.

No but the first one was the result of Sasson’s R&D while at Eastman-Kodak, a massive company that failed to capitalize on it years before anyone else was near it. They easily could’ve been the big player if they didn’t fear the impact on film sales. They had a solid decade head start and blew it.

The way digital cameras developed (hyuk hyuk) is arguably exceptional, definitely not a clean example.

Is this why Claude recommended that I use a Trump phone when I use it?
