Is there really a distinction between torturing humans and torturing pets? Aside from torture being torture, pets are members of people's families!

If I had to choose between my cat and my daughter...

Hell, if I had to choose between MY cat and YOUR daughter, the choice would will be easy

> pets are members of people's families!

If you could only rescue one member from some kind of deadly emergency and they had equal chances, would you prioritize the pet over a human member of your family?

If you could only rescue one family member from some kind of deadly emergency and they had equal chances, would you prioritize a stranger over a member of your family?

> would you prioritize a stranger over a member of your family?

I'll preface by saying that I don't have a pet. However, if one had to burn alive between a stranger's little girl and my cat, it's easier to empathize, "what if that were my daughter?". It's easy to imagine the father's pain, and because the girl is human, it's easier to imagine what might be going on in the little girl's head as well. As the heat's becoming too strong for her to bear, it's easier to imagine her expression, her pain, and her fear.

It's harder to imagine and empathize with what might be going on through a cat's head. They don't think as we do and don't express themselves as we do. It's not like one can't anthropomorphize and empathize that way, but it's not the same as empathizing with a human. It's harder to imagine and feel their thoughts and emotions to the same level of detail.

I'd feel for the cat, but I think the girl burning alive would give me the worse nightmares.

Legal/social consequences weight into your question.

A more straightforward angle could be money spent: would someone spend more for the wellbeing of their pet than for a family member (elderlies included).

I would save my cat before a distant cousin I met like four times in my life, absolutely.

Why not? There's a difference between castrating a human and castrating an animal, right?

It's actually nine wars ended now since the war with Iran was over weeks ago. Some people, smart people, some of them the smartest people, said it couldn't be done. But now leaders of nations all over the world are calling him to say "thank you, sir" for doing what no one has been able to do in the history of the world.

Tbf, that's a third party selling that box. But Walmart themselves do sell the Onn 4k stick/box which is the current every level pirates HW of choice to replace the firestick.

I have family members that have bought the Superbox in a Walmart physical store.

In fact here’s the conversation transcript of me asking about it:

Me: What was that piracy streaming box Uncle Gary got from Walmart? Superbox?

Them: Yeah

Me: Thanks

Them: I have it and I literally get everything for free. Like it already has the new super smash Brothers on it.

Them: Has every series and everything. I can give you the apps I have

Me: I dont need it haha just was showing people how illegal streaming is being sold in stores.

"After they stop working for the Garden, veterans of Dolan's operation continue to look over their shoulders. One of us—Shachtman—spent years covering national security and never encountered people taking such elaborate steps to avoid being outed as a source. There were warnings about being tailed; an insistence to meet outside during New York’s worst winter in decades; even a brush pass, just like when spies in the movies pretend to bump into one another to plant information.

Oakley was one of the few people willing to talk on the record. Years ago, he claims, he was attending a game at MSG with his friend Anthony McNair. His former Knicks teammate, Hall-of-Famer Patrick Ewing, was the associate head coach on the opposing squad, and sought out Oakley before tip-off. The pair embraced, chatted briefly, and made plans to talk at the game's conclusion. Oakley and McNair said they were soon approached by security, who informed Oakley he wasn't allowed to stray from his seat or venture into areas where fans are restricted. After the final buzzer, Oakley met Ewing alone near the visitors’ locker room. There, according to Oakley, Ewing warned him about talking because listening devices were everywhere. “Don't talk too loud,” Oakley said Ewing told him. “This place is supposed to be mic'd up.” (Ewing, now a basketball ambassador for the Knicks, did not comment on this reporting.)

Oakley wasn't aware, but according to another MSG security source there were discussions about tracking Oakley, even as he traveled hundreds of miles away. “They wanted to have us doing covert surveillance operations on him,” the source says, referring to Oakley, “just to see where he was at, what he was doing at the time, to try to dig up something to use.” As a series of court cases would later allege, the Garden security’s staff viewed the surveillance of perceived enemies as a normal part of doing business.

This source and others assumed many of these directives were coming from Dolan himself. Even as Eversole grew in importance at the Garden, he stayed glued to Dolan's side—working as part of the CEO's personal protective detail and as the overseer of his vast security, intelligence, and surveillance enterprise. That gave, at the very least, the impression of someone with real influence, even if MSG Sports chief operating officer Jamaal Lesane is widely understood to be Dolan's top deputy. “He's with Jim everywhere,” says a former MSG employee, who describes Eversole as “more of an adviser to Jim than just a guy doing security.” Eversole even had an office on the executive floor.

“Jim has a very small circle of people at the top that he talks to and confides in,” this source adds. “They're together all the time.” Perhaps that proximity helps explain why Eversole would react so quickly to even the pettiest slights against Dolan."

Generally, if the device is compatible and not new to the market, openwrt has been ported or is in the process (though it may not be the latest version of openwrt). You can search for your device in the compatibility drop downs and get the current status. If it's not listed, searching the device on the openwrt forums may tell you why (which is almost always the chipset).

Saw this elsewhere:

"It will not let you do anything until you download the app on your phone, make an account, and log in on the TV. You cant just change it to HDMI 1 and use a Firestick. I set it up with a throw away email, then deleted the app, and took the TV off of the WiFi."

Well that sucks, but maybe tolerable for a cheap TV if you only have to do it once.

Do they tell you this up front? When you buy it? I once returned a small bluetooth speaker, because it would not just let me connect to it. It wanted me to download an app, create an account, sign in and then accept a metric ton of crap about how they would collect all kinds of data about (in this case my mom's consumption of content that would be streamed to the speaker).

It was a damn portable bluetooth speaker. Well it was returned within an hour and the competitor was bought online.

At least, the store accepted it - I would have instantly send this as a case to the consumer protection agency, if they hadn't, though. Because they never even hinted (neither on the packaging, nor in the store) towards the necessity of the app and crap.

Everybody tolerates it, and then they will make it even worse. Thats how we go to where we are now with this bullshit.

Title was presumably a/b'd on the article since submission. I copy pasted it at that time.

Fair enough. Shame on SF Gate.
