I thought occupy wall street was backed more by those who identify as democrats or at least leaning that way. And I see this short squeeze just as a more concrete way to f*ck with the big money. Granted, big money rules them all.

If you think the Occupy Wall Street crowd is the one currently in control of democratic politics, then you have not been paying attention to democratic politics.

He said that OWS was primarily Democrats, not that they controlled the party.

Yeah, that girl that identified herself as "Ketchup" was definitely a member of the Young Republicans, maybe even a John Birch Society card carrier.

Offtopic but what we really need is a model where producing maximum amount of calories with minimum cost is heavily discouraged.

My grandfather bought a new mf 165 in 60s. It is still going strong and used for productive work. It has even fully functional original tires! Always been stored inside and almost always handled with thought. Ergonomics suck compared to more modern tractors but it's just fine for small-scale work anyway, kinda fun actually.

My father used to operate a MF 135 on his father's farm in his youth. He bought another one a few years ago. It is now used for mowing grass and thorn at their country house, and to give the grand-kids rides and driving lessons (they love it).

Recently it stopped working, but a search quickly suggested a solution thanks to an active online community :) If I remember correctly, the intake at the bottom of the tank got clogged, which happens from time to time.

That's true if you were just managing the home. I know that "homework" and caring for kids alone may sometimes be exhausting, but regularly allocating time for studying is usually worth it for everyone. I personally know two mothers who successfully changed their careers for better during their stay-at-home years.

What do you mean by current music? I have absolutely no idea what kind of garbage is pushed on teenagers these days but a lot of new music is produced.

I prefer managing my childrens' screen time myself rather than delegating yet another thing to some cold institution or those outright evil companies. Thankfully in my case they are usually more interested in real three dimensional things so there is very little to manage.

In my opinion screen time is like the worst reward for your child. Screens should be treated like inherently evil tools that can be of value if used with awareness.

The thing is, bad guys have guns too. You can't really defend against many thugs if they take you by surprise. Somebody could just wait somewhere near you house and snipe you, it's impossible to detect everything all the time if you leave your house or go near windows even once. And bad guys can use even explosives to break into your house.

Don't get me wrong though, since guns are extremely useful for defense and most of the bad guys aren't very tough. Surviving without a community in a serious scenario is just impossible.

Prepping beyond basic bugout-bag and having some extra food is pretty worthless if you are alone. Once you have a real community doing it to some degree it's absolutely worth it. City folks have very limited possibilities in any case.

I'd say that building a real community has far more prepping value than stockpiling ammunition and cans.

Take this with a grain of salt but I've heard that some kind of typewriters are still used in some countries for the top secret material.

I wonder: do they burn or otherwise destroy the ribbon after the fact?

Also I have to confess, I've definitely bought used (tape-based) answering machines/typewriters at yard sales a few times solely to listen to the greeting/messages or typed messages, respectively. Having the device itself is nice, too, of course. :)

It's an interesting slice of the lives of people I'll never know, like picking up discarded shopping lists.

Or when you want typewritten information but don't want to give that person access to a computer (such as a hacker).

How does this compare with unicomp keyboards ( https://www.pckeyboard.com/ ) Both are marketed as buckling spring monsters but surely there are some competent actual reasons to spend the extra money on the model-F?

The difference between model m (what unicomp is producing a replica of) and model F is pretty large.

Model F was before they started making the design cheaper (I know. Model M is known for its outstanding quality, but it is in fact a product of cheaping out from the production of the F).

Model F's are capacitive. That means "N-key rollover", and something like 4x the rated key press count rating. They are also smoother than Model M. The build is MUCH sturdier than the M.

I had an old 122 key model F and it weighed 4 kgs.

Edit: A review of the same keyboard I had. https://youtu.be/p_JTZo2rKmw

The restored model M I've tried had unpleasantly stiff keys; my model F does not.
